First stop--sunset, maybe 2 pm? so beautiful. see the church?
First night with Aurora
3 cormorants admire the view.... The Lofoten Islands are north of the Arctic circle and are comprised of bays, fjords, mountains and yes, some fertile farmland. The islands themselves are actually the eroded tops of partially submerged mountains. I swear every direction we looked there were mountains, and we often saw the water surrounding them. While in the Arctic CIrcle, Lofoten benefits from the gulf stream and so it doesn't get severely cold there...usually. Unfortunately for the group that followed us the week after we were there, Lofoten was slammed by Storm Ingunn which had winds equivalent to a level one hurricane.
